Tip: 8 great questions for a perfect interview:
  • 1. Do you remember any special stories your grandmother or grandfather told you?
  • 2. Can you identify events that you consider to have been turning points in your life, marriage and career?
  • 3. Did the Depression have an impact on you or any family members?
  • 4. If you could do one thing over in your life, what would it be?
  • 5. Who has had the greatest influence on your life and why?
  • 6. What are the advantages of getting older?
  • 7. What would you place in a time capsule that would tell a relative 100 years from now who you were?
  • 8. Where were you on 9/11 or Pearl Harbor?
  • Many oral traditions and stories are lost after only two generations. Having a personal historian interview, record and transcribe these stories will preserve memories and traditions indefinitely.
Hint: Genealogy records names, dates and places along with the interview add considerably more to the family history as personality and spirit is shared in the Personal Life Story.
"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
— Marcus Garvey
